Report Cards

 Hi Families,

With June report cards being right around the corner, I wanted to take a moment to celebrate the many accomplishments this year has brought to our classroom. Each child has demonstrated growth and should feel proud of who they are as a learner, peer and friend.

Your child's report card will be available through PowerSchool. Paper copies are not sent home. If you require a paper copy for your records, you must print a copy.

When reviewing your child's report card, please note that if your child's grades did not increase, that does not mean they have not shown improvement. If your child is receiving the same grade, it means they were able to keep up with the increase in demand and expectations that come with approaching the end of Kindergarten.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

Dear Families

Dear Lake Bonavista School Families,

This time of year brings so many changes alongside the end of the school year. For myself, this year brings an exciting, but also bittersweet, change as I will be on leave next year and not returning in September. No need for concern, as I will be on leave to travel! Starting in Morocco, and ending who-knows-where, I cannot wait to continue exploring, experiencing and learning.

Thank you for the true privilege of teaching your children over the last 10 years – each one has given me countless memories to keep close to my heart. It may be clichéd, but I truly think of them as “my kiddos” and you as “my family”. I hope our paths cross again in the future.

With gratitude,

Ms. Kelly Thomas

Raz Kids

 Hi Families,

RAZ Kids is back up and running, and will be available as a resource throughout the summer.

If you have any questions about your child's account, please let me know prior to June 28th.

Thank you!
Ms. Romanko

 Hello Families,

Yesterday, your child brought home a handmade gift for a very special person! We hope that you have a wonderful weekend celebrating Father's Day!

With the birdhouses is a package of nails and a hanger. Depending on where you plan to hang your birdhouse, you may wish to:

- attach the hanger on the back of the bird house, using two of the small nails
- attach the perch to the front using wood glue or hot glue
- reinforce the frame with the additional small nails
- finish the birdhouse with a wood sealer if planning to hang it outside

The Afternoon Kindergarten class had a wonderful morning in Fish Creek today, we were lucky enough to see and hear a Woodpecker! Thank you to all of our volunteers for joining us.

Next week, we will be celebrating the children having summer birthdays! If your child has a summer birthday and would like to celebrate with their peers, please see the previous blog note regarding the Montessori Birthday Celebration

On Friday, June 24th, Lake Bonavista School will be participating in Sports Day! We are looking for a few volunteers to support the kindergarten students as they rotate through Sports Day activities. If you are interested, and have a current Police Clearance on file with the school, please contact your child's teacher. Reminder-this is the AM class only participating on the 24th. The PM class will have their own on a non-rainy afternoon!

Important Upcoming Dates:

- Tuesday, June 21st: Summer Solstice
- Tuesday, June 21st: National Indigenous Peoples Day
- Friday, June 24th: Sports Day
- Tuesday, June 28th: Last Day of School for students

 Hi Families,

We had an extraordinary day exploring Fish Creek Park! The PM class will be heading to Fish Creek next Friday!

Thank you to all the volunteers who were able to join us - we could not do this without you, and we appreciate your time, energy and enthusiasm!

Some photos of our field-trip are shared in Google Classroom --> Classwork --> Whole Class Artifacts of Learning --> Fish Creek Field Trip.

If your child is keen to go back to Fish Creek Park, today we were at the Glennfield Day Use Area, accessed off of Bannister Road. There is an incredible constructed platform nest viewable from the parking area, as well as plenty of winding paths to explore, and safe access to the creek. We used the Crocus shelter if you'd like to eye-spy the nest in the rafters.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Hi Families,

Our week was all about celebration!

We hosted our Kindergarten assembly and taught the school about the five species of birds nominated for Calgary's Bird. Our assembly is posted in Google Classroom for you to watch as a family: Google Classroom --> Classwork --> Whole Class Artifacts of Learning --> Kindergarten Assembly

Thank you to all the families who donated building materials for our Buddy STEM challenge! Students worked with their big buddy to build a structure that would protect an egg from a fall. They could not wrap the egg in materials, but had to build a structure that they egg was placed into. Many incorporated tubes, doors and flaps to keep the egg inside, and modified their design after initial testing to ensure it was stable, and wouldn't tip over when dropped. We had a great time! Photos of the challenge are posted in Google Classroom. Google Classroom --> Classwork --> Whole Class Artifacts of Learning --> Buddy STEM Challenge.

A reminder that Fish Creek Park field-trip forms are due back on Wednesday! As this is an off-site activity, there are steps teachers need to take ahead of the field-trip with the forms.

Important Upcoming Dates:
- Friday, June 3rd: PM Kindergarten
- Friday, June 10th: Fish Creek Park Field-Trip - AM Kindergarten
- Friday, June 17th: Fish Creek Park Field-Trip - PM Kindergarten

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

 Hi Families,

A short, but busy week!

Teacher's Pet

Thank you to all our volunteers who were able to support our learning around making birdhouses! We so appreciate your time, energy and smiles! Our birdhouses are currently spread out all around the school, bringing lots of colour and happiness!

Photos from this experience are located in Google Classroom --> Classwork --> Whole Class Artifacts of Learning --> Building Birdhouses

Thank you also to School Council for subsidizing this amazing, in-class experience!

Fish Creek Park

We will be going on a field-trip to Fish Creek Park on Friday, June 10th (AM Kinder) and June 17th (PM Kinder)!

Paperwork came home today with your child. As this is an off-site field-trip, the paperwork is more extensive, so please read each section carefully, fill in the required information and return no later than Monday, June 6th

There is a small payment associated with this field-trip which can be paid through your MyCBE/PowerSchool account. You cannot access the Fees section using the mobile app, you must be on a computer.

We would love to have a couple more volunteers join us on our field-trip. If you are are interested, and have your Police Clearance on file with the school, please contact your child's teacher.

Bird Observation Sheets

If you have not already done so, please return all "Have You Seen...?" bird observation sheets (5), as well as the poly-envelope, by Monday.

If you need additional copies of the sheets, they are in Google Classroom --> Classwork --> Resources --> Have You Seen: Backyard Birds

Assembly

Our virtual assembly is fast approaching, so we have been consolidating all the pieces of our bird study in order to share with the school. Our virtual assembly will be recorded and posted in Google Classroom to share with families at the end of the day on Wednesday, June 1st.

Part of our work with our assembly, is understanding Land Acknowledgements; what they are and why they are important.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
